Description
Climatic Requirements
-
Temperature: Ideal between 25°C to 35°C; tolerates up to 45°C.
-
Rainfall: Low to moderate (500–800 mm annually); too much rain during flowering/fruiting harms the crop.
-
Sunlight: Requires full sun.
-
Altitude: Grows well up to 500 m above sea level; can tolerate higher elevations with care.
Soil Requirements
-
Type: Well-drained loamy or sandy loam soils.
-
pH: 5.5 to 7.5 (tolerates slightly alkaline soils).

Three flowering seasons in India:
-
Mrig bahar (June–July, harvested Feb–March)
-
Ambe bahar (Feb–March, harvested Aug–Sept)
-
Hasta bahar (Oct–Nov, harvested May–June)
-
-
Mrig bahar is most preferred due to less pest/disease incidence
